Plot
On the Golden Afternoon, Charles Dodgson (pen name Lewis Carroll) tells his child muse, Alice, her favorite story for the last time. Your Alice is a theatrical Victorian psychedelia that explores the complex and dynamic friendship between Mr. Dodgson and his ‘dreamchild’ muse Miss Alice Liddell, the inspiration behind Alice in Wonderland. As they sail down the Oxford river, his beloved characters weave us in and out of Wonderland and through his tortured relationship with 10-year-old Miss Liddell.
Reviews
"It’s a play that is doubtlessly of the moment, its inquiry easily born out of the contemporary necessity to better name the actions and intentions of men too easily in possession of power- Haunting, imaginative and surreal, her central question is endlessly fascinating."-Fordham Observer
Perhaps the most impressive element of this production is the smooth transitions between reality and fantasy, enabled by the 11-strong cast- Director Billie Aken-Tyers handles the sensitive issues behind the story with respect and dignity."-Every element of Your Alice works perfectly together to produce an impressive and must-see show." Broadway Baby (Your Alice)
"A meaty discussion piece that will never be wholly summed up in a single review. The play doesn't offer you answers, instead it begs to be talked about."-PopDust
"The play leaves an inimitably striking effect upon those who have, as everyone else, taken Alice to be their own."
- Art of the Daily
"Billie Aken-Tyers has written a dizzying and engaging script and directed her cast expertly This is a must-see for anyone interested in Alice or Carroll."-British Theatre Guide (Your Alice)
To find poignancy and power in such a ubiquitous childhood story is a remarkable feat and the ensemble cast handle its weight of tradition with sensitivity... a highly engaging watch." -EdFringe Review (Your Alice)
